Brenden has been a business service director since July 2007. He originally joined the firm in February 1995 as a trainee accountant and since that time has gained extensive experience in the business services and assurance areas.

From 2002 to 2007 Brenden specialised in providing assurance and related services to small and medium public and private groups across diverse industries, including consumer and industrial products, advertising and agriculture. More recently he has specialised in providing taxation, superannuation and other business services to privately held groups.

Brenden is a member of Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand, and a Registered Tax Agent.

Stephen Austin

Stephen has been a business services director since July 2008. He originally joined the firm in 2001 as part of the taxation advisory division and has more recently focused on business services clients that have specialised tax needs.

Prior to joining the firm, Stephen conducted his own private practice as well as acting as the Group Financial Controller for his family’s manufacturing and distribution business prior to its sale.

He has wide experience in taxation advisory, accounting, superannuation, family office and estate and succession planning matters.

Stephen is a Chartered Tax Advisor with The Taxation Institute, Australia, a member of Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand, CPA Australia, a Registered Tax Agent, and a Justice of the Peace (NSW). He holds a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accounting and Management (with a sub major in Marketing), and a Diploma of Financial Planning.

Chris Allen

Chris has extensive experience in the profession, advising the SME sector on all aspects of taxation, accounting and business management, together with conducting audits of large enterprises and foreign-controlled Australian companies under the Corporations Act.

He has undertaken valuations of SMEs for both family law and business sale purposes, as well as leading due diligence engagements for clients looking to acquire businesses. Chris’ audit and advisory expertise extends to builders and developers, agribusiness, manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors, aged care and health care service providers.

Prior to joining Boroughs in 2014, Chris spent 27 years with BDO and its predecessor firm PKF where he served on the firm’s executive in his capacity as Partner in Charge of the Private Client service line, as well as the firm’s National Head of Private Clients.

He is a registered company auditor, an approved SMSF auditor, a Registered Tax Agent and a member of Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand. He also holds a diploma in Financial Planning.

With big four firm experience, Matthew has been a business services director since 2014.

Working with large privately-owned businesses, subsidiaries of multinational companies, entrepreneurs and high net wealth individuals, Matthew takes a proactive and hands-on approach to advising clients on the full suite of accounting, taxation, and business-related matters.

Whilst industry experience is diverse, Matthew has extensive experience working with large privately held businesses operating in the property development and construction industries where he has acted as an outsourced CFO and provided finance function services.

Matthew is a member of Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand, a Registered Tax Agent and member of The Tax Institute, Australia. He also holds a diploma in Financial Planning.

Stephen is a business services director who joined the firm in 2013, previously having been part of a large mid-tier firm for over 10 years.

He has experience in all aspects of accounting, including statutory and management accounting, structuring, outsourcing and taxation compliance and advice. He has been involved in a broad range of clients in various industries, including aged care, property & construction, professional service providers, primary production and sport and entertainment.

Andrew Lam

Andrew is a specialist tax director who joined the firm in July 2018. He has broad experience in providing corporates and individuals with general tax planning/restructuring advice and assisting with transactional tax planning including access to small business CGT concessions and conducting tax due diligence. He can also assist clients in tax controversy matters.  His clients include small and medium businesses, family groups, and not-for-profit entities.

Prior to joining Boroughs, Andrew led the specialist tax consulting team of another mid-tier chartered accounting firm. In previous roles, Andrew has progressed through the tax consulting teams of big 4 and mid-tier accounting firms and a top tier law firm.

Andrew is a Chartered Tax Adviser with the Taxation Institute, Australia, an affiliate member of Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand, and a qualified solicitor admitted to practice law in NSW. Andrew holds a combined Bachelor’s degree in Commerce/Law and a Masters of Laws.

Kelly McNeill

Kelly joined the firm in 2022 as a business services director.

With over 12 years’ experience working with private clients in big four and mid-tier accounting firms, Kelly advises on a broad range of business and personal taxation matters. Kelly also has in-house family office experience.

Kelly works closely with a wide range of clients, with a focus on executives of listed companies, entrepreneurs and start-ups, high net wealth individuals and families, and private family-owned businesses. She specialises in structuring, capital gains tax, international tax issues, superannuation, asset protection and inter-generational planning.

Kelly is a member of Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand as well as The Taxation Institute, Australia. She holds a Master of Taxation (Honours) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Finance) both from the University of NSW.

Alan Moffat

Alan is a business services director, who joined the firm in February 1991. He was previously with Pannell Kerr Forster for 15 years, the last 8 as a partner in the firm’s business services division.

Alan gained a number of years’ experience in commerce prior to moving to the profession. He has gained a wide range of experience through his involvement with a diverse range of clients, including both public companies and private client groups, operating in the areas of technology, IT outsourcing, investment, hospitality, property development and retail and wholesaling areas. Alan also has experience in taxation, superannuation and estate planning related matters.
